WiiMusic hands-on, Mirror’s Edge hands-off

I had a chance to play WiiMusic and it’s pretty fun. Don’t get me wrong, I made the last comic to engage in controversy about the bad sales of WiiMusic. Many people complained about the track list of the game and its seemingly non-existing goal. It’s true, I didn’t like the tracks either but you should consider that they are chosen for the game. In Guitar Hero there are only tracks with guitar scores and in Donkey Konga there were only tracks with good percussion instruments, thus WiiMusic needed tracks with a lot of instruments and the songs I saw in the game are perfect for its purpose. WiiMusic doesn’t have notes to follow and it completely relies on the player. It’s the perfect game to sit and enjoy playing without any score-hunting or competition with friends. If you liked WiiSports and WiiPlay you’ll also probably like WiiMusic as well because it really is the game you play for 10-20 minutes when you come back from work and just want to relax.

If you want to see the full-sized fake cover I uploaded it for you, alongside with the real WiiMusic cover.

Mirror’s edge is also finally out but I can’t play it (waiting for the PC version :P ). I’ll just rely on Catman’s review of the demo on PSN. He told me Dice did a great work and denied the rumors I heard about the bad dubbing (at least for the Italian audience) but I would like to hear it first-person (pun intended). Anyway, Faith will be back on the comic because she’s way too pretty and charismatic.

I know some of you may be disappointed but I don’t think Metroid SR388 will ever have a playable demo or a beta because its creator is having some trouble finding serious people for beta testing after showing a teaser of the demo. We’ll have to wait for the final release and this makes me think we haven’t heard of any new Metroid game yet. We’re now sure that Retro Studios won’t work on Metroid any more and this leaves a great legacy to the future but how long will we have to wait for any new 3D or 2D game? Only time will tell, sadly.

Friday is Tomb Rider Underworld’s release! I can’t wait to play it but while I wait I should think of a comic too. I didn’t have an idea for TRU in two months, damn it! *headbangs on the desk*

maybe that was useful… I’m having an Idea right now…

Edit: Oh shit. Now I have two ideas.

Cash or credit card?

They fit like the devil and holy water but apparently, Square-Enix offered big bucks to buy Eidos. Eidos’ shareholders will have a meeting next moth to ponder this buyout but there’s no doubt they’ll accept, because Square Enix is paying Eidos 130% its cost! Looks like a weird move from Square whose financial forecast for 2009’s first quarter are frightening. Anyway, I’m really curious to see what they’re going to do with the new studios and intellectual properties. In my opinion, they’re going to hand over european localisations of their games to Eidos London, Wimbledon and Montreal. Probably they’ll keep on producing games for the existing franchises under new management. If they’ll give Lightning’s face to Lara or just her breast size, I’m going to cry. I wonder what would happen if Square bought Bungie. This sucks on ice!

Still alive or not yet dead

Like Captainface shouted in the shoutbox a couple of days ago, the biggest announcement in the past few days was Portal 2, hinted and slowly spoiled by valve in the last years and more frequently on the last weeks. No release dates have been announced so far but we’ll probably be playing it this holiday season. Lots of people are speculating if this could be sold with Half Life 2 :Episode 3 or will be Episode 3 itself but I think it’s a waste of time to day-dream on a plot where the last villain in the series was an AI addicted to cakes.

The second Valve-related news is the (likely) upcoming Steam support for Macs. The Orange box games have been made object of some Mac-inspired ads so it’s not difficult to guess what Valve is hinting.

Lara Croft and the Guardian of Light has also been announced recently. It’ll be a downloadable game for XBLA and PSN. The game has already been nicknamed Diablo Raider or Lara of Persia. Allow me to say that I knew that Square-Enix would have screwed up. You’ll get a couple of related comics in the next weeks. You can bet on this.

Before giving you the last sad news of this post, I’d like you to know that Super Street Fighter IV will have some extra content for the players that own Street Fighter 4 for the same platform. Hokuto no Ken costume for Abel. I called this first.

Some people complained that we didn’t get a new video of Metroid Other M at the Nintendo Media Summit this year. Well, it got released a few days after that and it’s full of cinematic. I wouldn’t even consider this game in my must-buy list after seeing this if the game wasn’t directed by Yoshio Sakamoto himself. Still, next time models and animations should be done by Epic Games because I just can’t stand plain reflective surfaces with no detail after the awesome work that Retro Studios did with Metroid Prime.
